Glenda from Merrick, NY

I have a court case coming with my job. This woman has battled me for years. Now she is influencing my supervisor to write me up. What spells can I use for the court case and to stop her once and for all?

Also, my granddaughter was taken away by her mother from my son. She has injured her before. We are going to have to fight for custody. She took my granddaughter away from school and a budding figure skating career. How can I protect her and win custody? Thank you.

Dear Glenda,

Honey, I'm going to recommend a book: Dorothy Morrison's Utterly Wicked. This book has spells that will help you with all of your issues. Read it and enjoy! Go get 'em, tiger!

Kitty from Stafford, VA

Hi, I've always been into the craft. I've read up on it and studied it. It has been calling to me since I was little, but I don't think my family would accept it. They are all judgmental Christians. I really want to get into it though. I just don't know where to go or who to ask and what to do. It is such a beautiful practice. Could you give me a website or advice as to what I should do?

Dear Kitty,

Spirituality and religion are very personal choices. Although this may sound harsh, this choice is nobody else's business but your own. But just because you practice Wicca, witchcraft, or any form of paganism doesn't mean you have to walk around with "the blue star on thy brow." There is a way to practice quietly and privately. Books can be put into chests or drawers. Altars can look like decorative pieces. Rituals can be done quietly and privately, even in the bathroom if need be.

If you are over 18, you can visit a website like The Witches' Voice or stop by 13 Magickal Moons in Occoquan, VA to meet others of a like mind and learn more about the craft. If you are under 18, I wouldn't recommend going to The Witches' Voice simply because it is an internet website where anyone can create a profile; for safety's sake it's never a good idea to meet with strangers! There are a lot of books that are focused on teen witchcraft such as Silver RavenWolf's Teen Witch. Good luck, hon!

Josie from Woodbridge, VA

This has got to be a ridiculous question. I'm sure you get it all the time and it may sound ignorant or what-have-you, but I was raised Catholic and have very little understanding of the occult except for it is "bad/evil." Whether this is my view or not is irrelevant - as I was raised to believe certain things without being informed of the facts or particulars of others. It's all conditioning, and with that said, I'd like to know if "magic" is real. Be it the stuff they show on TV or the movies, moving things with energy, spells, curses, etc. I guess all of that baffles me and if you wouldn't mind giving me a general idea of how the Wiccan lifestyle works, I would be very grateful. Thank you so much for your time and again, I'm sorry for being so oblivious. I've done my own research, but anyone can write whatever they want on a website or in a self-published book. I suppose it would be best to go directly to a source who may be more inclined to educate a layman. Thanks!!

Dear Josie,

Movie magick is not real. There are no fireballs, energy balls, blinking, or nose-twitching-magick performed in Wicca. If the media depicted true magick, it would be very boring because it's all done within the body, not outside of the body. Because of this, Hollywood has to make it seem more exciting. Trust me, if I could blink a million dollars into my bank account, my life would be very different today! Real magick involves focusing your mind, heart, and energy on a specific intention or change you want in your life. Everything is made out of energy, which can be used to create change in one's life. Praying is a form of energy movement. When you kneel, bring your hands together, bow your head, and talk to God, you are sending energy and asking God to make a change in your life. What Catholics call a miracle, witches call magick. As a practicing witch, I have witnessed with my own eyes the miracle in magick and the magick that has created miracles.

Witchcraft isn't evil and I'm not evil. My lifestyle is no different from everyone else's. I get up in the morning, take care of my animals, take a shower, and go to work. I spend my day working with people and talking with people. I go home at night, have dinner, watch tv, crawl into bed with my husband, and go to sleep. There are no flying brooms or bubbling cauldrons hiding in my closet! Being a witch means I honor a masculine and feminine divine, and I follow my own spiritual path. I spend a couple of minutes in front of my altar every day to connect with the divine and give thanks for everything I have.

Coming next year, Tradition of the Witches Circle will be allowing an unlimited amount of students to attend classes via webcam. I invite you to "sit in" on the first four classes of the 2012 beginner 101 series so you can get a better feeling for what Wicca is about.

I hope that this gives you a little bit more of an understanding into witchcraft from a practicing witch. Many, many blessings to you!

Alessia from Madison Heights, MI

How would one follow the tradition of the moon and find a Wiccan to teach them?

Dear Alessia,

The Witches' Voice is a fantastic website with a lot of useful and interesting articles. The "Witches of the World" section can help you find and connect with others of a like mind in your area.

Sonshine from Woodbridge, VA

I've been in a relationship with a guy for a few years. Things are good between us and then all of a sudden not. I want us to move forward but there is hesitation and indecisiveness when it comes to commitment. I want to know what I can do to improve this problem and move forward without the hesitation, like a work I can perform. Thanks a lot.

Dear Sonshine,

It's always hard when communication between lovers starts to break down. If the two of you are willing to put forth the effort to make the relationship work, I suggest both of you carry a piece of rhodochrosite, the gemstone of bonding lovers and soulmates. The rhodochrosite needs to be charged before you start carrying it. One intimate way to charge the gemstones would be to hold them in your hand while you are making love. The gemstone turns into an amulet, a reminder to both of you of the love you have and the work you're willing to do. I hope this response finds the two of you happily in love and committed to each other!

Sammie from Indianapolis, IN

I've been living in my house for over seven years and have never seen mushrooms growing in my front yard. I do believe in beings of other dimensions and I'm wondering if these mushrooms that are showing up all of a sudden are an indication that I may have been visited by fairies? If so, how should or could I show my appreciation for their visit?

Dear Sammie,

Unless the mushrooms are growing in a circle, it probably wasn't fairies. The fae create sacred space in circular patterns. You may notice a perfectly round patch of bright green grass or mushrooms/trees/flowers growing in a ring.

But if you want to honor the fae, there are a few things you can do. Remove any cast iron, a natural repellant to fairies, from your home and garden. Grow St. John's wort and rosemary in your garden as these herbs naturally attract the fae. In your home, you can dedicate a little altar to them. Make sure you do your research on correspondences that are fae friendly.

Cyndi from Manassas, VA

I have been interested in Wicca for about two years now and I have read a ton of books. I would love to get some actual people interaction and maybe find someone to mentor me. Do you have any suggestions on how to find someone?

Dear Cyndi,

As it just so happens, Tradition of the Witches Circle at 13 Magickal Moons just started their 101 series on Friday evenings. It's still early enough for you to join and not miss too much. Please visit the 13 Magickal Moons website for an updated class schedule.

I also invite you to join us every Wednesday evening for Tea Night from 6-9 to meet other people of a like mind.

Nicholl from Woodbridge, VA

Is there such a thing as a natural witch? I also wanted to get control of empathic abilities I have had for years now.

Dear Nicoll,

If you're a witch then you're a natural witch. All witches are natural witches.

To control or block empathic abilities, I would suggest using either black tourmaline or blue opal. Both of these powerful gemstones can help shield empathic abilities and therefore give you greater control. Personally, I would recommend you save up your money and go out of your way to find a blue opal ring. It'll be a beautiful piece of jewelry that you can wear every day. It can help keep you sane from everyone's crazy emotions.

Sandee from Cabot, AR

What is something I can use to help cleanse myself of the hatred I feel for my ex-husband? It's been four years and it still feels fresh. I'm tired of the pain and the hate.

Dear Sandee,
Hate is an active emotion. You actively have to get rid of it. You can't meditate, breathe, or pray it away. My suggestion would be to make a pillow voodoo doll to represent your ex-husband then beat that pillow voodoo bastard within an inch of his life! Make Jerry Spring proud!

Now a warning: This is going to be ugly. Really, really ugly. Send family members off for a vacation. Stay away from those priceless valuables. Warn your neighbors that the howling and screaming they are going to be hearing is just you. Then smudge the shit our of your house when you're done. Repeat every time you start to feel those feelings bubble up. Eventually those feelings will just disappear.

You really need to ask yourself why are you still holding onto him. Hate is a way of holding on. It is just the flip side of love. Be honest with yourself and your emotions and allow the healing process to begin.

Elle from Louisiana

I have been feeling a bit disconnected from my path lately. No matter what I do, I cannot seem to "feel" like I did four months ago even. I have been on my path for many years. I do not know what happened, but I feel like I am spiritually blocked. Any ideas?

Dear Elle,

Go smaller! Sometimes doing the long, drawn-out ritual can be tiresome and, dare I say, boring the longer we have been on the path. Think outside the box. What haven't you done yet? What magickal practice have you not ventured into? What tradition have you not studied? If you're a solitary, find a group that does open sabbat rituals and keep the esbats for yourself. It sounds like you just need to reawaken the passion you once had for your spirituality.

Melissa from Lake Ridge, VA

Every so often, I'll hear someone mention their spirit or totem animal. I'm wondering if everyone has one (or more) and how you discover it.

Dear Melissa,

Totem spirits are animals or insects that individuals connect with on a personal level. Totems can also represent the energy/magick we currently need in our lives or for our specific situation. A person can have multiple totems, a single totem that has been with them their whole life, or they can have different totems at different times of the year. Yes, everyone has one.

Look around you and start taking note of the creatures and critters surrounding you. Do you always see deer? Do you see a red robin constantly in your back yard? Do spiders seem to follow you around? Do you feel a connection to a specific type of animal like cats, dogs, wolves, or elephants? The animals thatyou see the most and the animals you are drawn to are usually your totem animals/spirits. Hope this helps!

Ashleigh from Lorton, VA

I am currently in a dark place. There is so much negative energy around me that I can't seem to find any solace in my spirituality, which frightens me. I feel disconnected and worn, to the point where I no longer know where to turn. Is there some way to banish this fear and uncertainty? I have felt before that all is lost, but was able to restore myself in the end, so to speak. This is the darkest I have felt, and I am frightened that I can't gather the strength to pull myself out. What would you recommend to revive my hopes and faith?  If I recover, what should be the next step?

Dear Ashleigh,

It hurts my heart to read about your loss of happiness and joy in the world around you. Without knowing the details of your situation, I would make a very uneducated guess that what you are feeling right now may be clinical depression. There is NO SHAME in having depression! It does not mean that you are weak or pathetic. It simply means that your brain is sick and it may need medication to feel better. Visit this page at WebMD for some more information about depression.

I know that a lot of witches believe we should use only a holistic approach when dealing with feelings of depression and/or loss of interest in life. However, I believe that holistic healing techniques should be used in conjunction with Western medicine. Hopefully this response finds you with medical insurance with which you can go visit your primary care physician to speak to him about your situation and treatment options.

If visiting your doctor is not an option for you, I invite you to come by the shop and talk about this. You are not alone!

Joseph from Manassas, VA

Hi! I have been feeling like my spirit has been blocked or trapped and was wondering if you have any great ways that I can try to unblock myself, if that makes any sense, ha ha. Can you suggest any stones, herbs, teas, or whatever could possibly help? :)

Dear Joseph,

Um... I hope you're reading this... because I need more information. Do you feel like somebody stole your soul? Do you feel like someone else trapped your soul? Do you feel like you trapped your own soul? There are too many variables for me to answer this question currently. I invite you to resubmit your question with more details.

Sara from Palm Bay, FL

I have been practicing for almost three years. I am a solitary but do belong to a local group. Everyone has a different path and a different way of casting a circle. Is there a standard way?
Dear Sara,

No, there is no standard way to cast a circle. Everyone practices in a different way, feels things in a different way, and experiences things in a different way; therefore, circles should always be cast in a way that makes the practitioner feel the most comfortable and powerful.
