Bouttogocrazy from Virginia

Hi, I’m living with my family who is surrounded by chaos and drama. I need it to stop as it’s having very bad effects on me, but one particular person doesn’t know how to live without it. They didn’t react well to me cleansing the house once. Help! Thank you.

Dear Bouttogocrazy,

There is no easy answer and no easy spell to help you deal with your chaotic and dramatic family. Nor is there an easy spell to help cleanse you home of all the negative energy you are feeling. If you have your own bedroom then focus on keeping your room cleansed and protected against the energy of your housemates. Your bedroom should be your sanctuary, a safe haven for you to escape to. I would suggest creating a protection/cleansing witch bottle to keep by your bedroom door.

Black tourmaline (to protect against negative energy)
Bloodstone (to absorb negative energy)
Black salt (for protection)
Sage (to cleanse away energy)
Light bulb, broken into pieces (preferably one from the main living area of the home)
Nail for each member of the house (do not include one for yourself)

Gather all the supplies and put them into a jar or bottle (any old container will do). Hold the bottle between your hands and visualize yourself and your room protected by a sphere of protection. Visualize this sphere impenetrable, nothing… not even the tiniest fleck of energy, can pass through it. You’ll feel the energy move from your body, into your hands, and into the bottle. Once you feel the energy stop, hide the jar somewhere in your room.

Heather from Warrenton, VA

I'm interesting in becoming a Wiccan in an all-Christian family.

Dear Heather,

The biggest mistake a lot of Wiccans make when they are practicing in an all-Christian home is they tend to be very "in your face" about it. My advice is if you want your family to respect your spiritual beliefs, please remember to respect theirs.

Good luck, hon!

SimplyFrustrated from Woodbridge, VA

What am I doing wrong?? It seems that everything I want and set my intent on, focus energy and spellwork toward, I get the complete opposite!! How do I raise energy and direct it properly to actually get the results I desire?

Dear SimplyFrustrated,

This is a very open-ended question because it all depends on how you're raising and directing energy. There could be so many different reasons, however, the most common reason is accidentally focusing on the negative.

An example would be a spell for more money. When you're thinking about the money and raising it, you may be thinking about how broke you are. Instead, you have to focus on seeing and feeling the money. After the spell is cast, you may start doubting yourself, thinking "did I use the right candle or oil?" By doing this, you may be inadvertantly adding negative energy to the spell, which could - and often does - create the opposite effect of what you're trying to achieve.

Create an incantation to repeat as you're raising energy. This will keep you focused on a positive outcome.

Aine from Union Grove, NC

I have been having really intense vivid nightmares lately and it makes me wake up feeling like I haven't had any rest. Is there a particular spell that can put a stop to them?

Dear Aine,

Spells are tricky things when it comes to nightmares. I prefer to go with a piece of citrine placed under the pillow or matress. This is something the Native Americans have been using for thousands of years. I invite you to look up the properties of citrine and you will find a number of stories about its anti-nightmare properties.

On the mundane side, practice deep breathing and relaxation techniques to help you feel calmer and relaxed before you come to bed. This is really helpful if you've been having nightmares for a long time. Your body is used to being stressed out before you go to bed.

The citrine might need a few days to take effect. Make sure you place the gemstone in a bowl of lavender and sage to cleanse it every morning.

Cael from Virginia

Wicca has always caught my attention, and I've tried on my own to read books and find out more, but I feel like I'm going nowhere with the books I keep choosing. Are there any suggestions on books that will start me off and give me more knowledge?

Dear Cael,

There are a couple of things that I'm going to suggest. If beginner books make you feel like you're not learning a lot, then move on to more advanced books, spell books, and books about other traditions of witchcraft.

However, sometimes the problem isn't the books that we're reading but the lack of confidence in what were doing. Look for events or groups in your area. This will allow you to talk to other people who are practicing the same thing. Getting together with people of a like mind and hearing the stories about what they do can help us feel more confident in what we're doing.

Reena from North Carolina

Not a question... just a comment that I look forward to visiting your blog in the future. I'm currently working on a book which explores witchcraft and Christianity (New Adult Paranormal). It'll be fun to surf your site and possible find answers.

Dear Reena,

What a fantastic book idea! I really look forward to reading it. If you need help or want to do an interview, please feel free to contact me.

Blessed Be and Namaste,

Megan from Charlottesville, VA

So I have been a solo practitioner for years, but recently have felt that I need to socialize with other pagans/witches. How do I find people in my local area? Thanks!

Dear Megan,

There is a fantastic website that you can visit called The Witches' Voice. This site has listings for local solitaries, groups, and events. All you have to do is search by your state and city. Good luck finding a group to work with!

Twisted from Virginia

I have a hard time letting go of my Christian beliefs and honoring Jesus Christ, but I feel the methods and rituals of a coven or solitary witch is more honoring of the divine than my simple knee praying. Am I still a witch if I honor Jesus as my divine?

Dear Twisted,

I believe the Divine, no matter what name we give Him/Her wants to be honored. The method we use to honor the Divine is a personal choice. It doesn’t really matter what you call yourself, be it Witch or Christian, as long as you follow your heart and your intuition.

Jenny from Dale City, VA

There is a person, an ex, who constantly pops up in my life and causes me a lot of pain. I want to do a banishing spell and I'm not really sure what to do or what I'd need. Any suggestions?

Dear Jenny,

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could actually banish all exes from our lives. I know my life would certainly be better if I could. But since banishing a person isn’t possible without doing serious harm, I would suggest that you banish the influence of the ex in your life.

1 black candle (and a candle holder)
9 clothing pins (with a black top if possible)
1 picture of the ex (s/he should be alone in the picture)
A pinch each of: cayenne pepper, black pepper, black salt
A cookie sheet with aluminum foil (to protect the sheet)
1 black marker (sharpie works best)

On the back of the picture write:

You no longer matter and I no longer care
Your influence over me I no longer share
You’re less than nothing in my life today
So you and your influence can go the F*&K AWAY

Place the black candle into the candleholder.

Pin the picture to the candle using the 9 pins (be sure to put pins in the eyes and mouth).

Sprinkle the herbs on and around the candle.

Light the candle.

Once the candle has finished burning, take the candle holder off the sheet (no point in throwing it away), wad up the remains of your spell and bury it away from your home (by at least ½ a mile).

Brittany from Tallahassee, FL

Hi! I was wondering how "Ask-a-Witch" discovered the wonderful Pagan (or Witchy) Path! )O(

Dear Brittany,

The short version of my story is a friend bought me a book on witchcraft as a joke and it just really resonated with what I already believed!

Brenna from Manassas, VA

Hello! I am currently job hunting as my job isn’t bringing in nearly enough money that I need. I was wondering if there’s anything I can do to help increase my chances or pull better things my way? Thank you!

Dear Brenna,

Green aventurine is a gemstone well known to bring good luck and High John root can help attract your perfect job!

Tatiana from Maryland

Am I too young to be doing spells and wearing amulets?

Dear Tatiana,

Absolutely not, but you never want to do a spell or wear an amulet without knowing EXACTLY what it is you are doing/wearing.

Aeleen from Montclair, VA

I was hoping to get a little advice. I just recently started practicing shamanism. After 10 years of practicing the art of witchcraft, I finally decided to dedicate myself to shamanism since that is what my family truly practices. Now I must admit something. I have a great fear of spiders but one of my totems is a spider. I don't know how to really take this. I was hoping what should I do to cope with it? I look forward to reading your reply in the future. Thank you. Blessed be!

Dear Aeleen,

Take the spider totem as a powerful ally in both your magickal and mundane life! Spiders, although scary and freakishly fast, help us to see through illusions, communicate our thoughts and feelings, and help us tap into our creative side.

I have always been afraid of spiders (to the point of just being shy of arachnophobia) and yet they have been a lifelong totem of mine (along with the mighty ant!). As a matter of fact, as I write this response to you there is a spider on my wall watching me!

Oriana from Virginia

I am a 21 year old female. I have been single my entire life. I'm not one of those "why does nobody love me" types. I'm mature and have my mind made up on a career. I would like to have a relationship with someone and "fall in love" but I can't shake the feeling that I am going to be "single and alone" forever. I am still in college and have my goals to finish school and get my career going. I have been trying to let down some walls and open up more, not taking life so seriously. Physically I am okay with being single, but mentally it's starting to worry me that I may not find someone to spend my life with. What can/should I do to find that special someone? Or is it really that big of a deal and am I making it out to be something much more than it really is?

Dear Oriana,

You’ve probably heard this a hundred times already, but you’re young and still have plenty of time to find love. The fact that you are focused on finishing school and starting a career speaks volumes about the kind of person you are. If you want to “let down your walls and open up more,” start with allowing yourself to have a close circle of friends. Friendships allow us to have connecting/bonding intimacies without the sexual tension of dating.

If you feel that you really want a relationship (and are ready for one) then start by making a MUST HAVE and DEAL BREAKER list. The MUST HAVE side will have things that you really want in a partner (i.e. a job, great sense of humor, driver’s license, etc.). The DEAL BREAKER side will have things you will not tolerate in a partner (i.e. been to jail, jobless, suspended license, heavy drinker, drug user, etc.). Place this list, along with the following ingredients into a decorative box.

* Two pieces of rhodocrosite (to attract soul mates)
* A picture of a couple looking lovingly at each other
* A magnet (to attract your lover to you)
* The herbs of jasmine, rose, orchids, and lavender (about a tablespoon of each)
* Sea salt (a great conductor of energy)

Once you have all the ingredients in the box, place it outside on the morning of the first day of the full moon and leave it outside for 3 whole days (take the box back inside on the fourth morning). This allows 3 days of full sun energy (the God) and 3 nights of full moon energy (the Goddess) to fill your box, adding great power to your spell. Keep this box on your altar.

Good luck hon!

Christy from Manassas, VA

My mom and I are very interested in learning about the Wiccan religion. How do we approach this as beginners?

Dear Christy,

It’s fantastic that you and your mom want to learn about Wicca together! I suggest starting with one of Dorothy Morrison’s books: The Craft: A Witch’s Book of Shadows. This is a great introduction book and reads easily and beautifully. Dorothy put in a ton of practical information which will help you both understand the basics of Wicca.

Miki from Stafford, VA

I just broke up with my boyfriend, and we love each other, but there are things we both need to work on. I would like to get back together and was told by someone this is not the end with us. How can I increase or enhance our chances?

Dear Miki,

The best way to enhance your chances of getting back together with your ex is to work on the things that drove you apart.

Good luck!

Stacy from Tampa, FL

I was reading that for success in an exam I should carry spikenard. I want to know if this is the best thing and if so do you sell it? I don't see it in the herbs listing. Thank you.

Dear Stacy,

We don’t have spikenard, but we do carry and ship flourite. Flourite helps students to retain information and therefore makes a fantastic amulet for tests/exams.

Cath from "P"

A spell for weight loss? One that works...

Dear Cath,

You can try to do a binding spell to control your urges.

Items needed: 1 black candle, 1 orange candle, black ribbon or black electrical tape, picture of yourself doing the bad habit, lighter, fire safe dish

Look at the picture of yourself doing the bad habit. See the way you look when you're doing it. See what you don't like about yourself doing it.

Keeping this image in mind, take the black tape or ribbon and, beginning at the bottom of the picture, wrap the tape/ribbon around the picture while saying...

"I bind you YOUR NAME. I bind you from ever BAD HABIT HERE."

Repeat this chant until the picture is completely covered in black

Now light the black candle and say...

"I bind myself from BAD HABIT. I no longer wish to BAD HABIT. As this candle burns, my cravings for BAD HABIT will decrease. When this candle burns out, my cravings for BAD HABIT will cease to be."

Now light orange candle and say...

"With this candle, I empower myself with strength and courage. The strength to resist any temptations I may have for BAD HABIT and the courage to say NO. I am strong. I am stronger than my need for BAD HABIT. I am strong. I am strong. I am strong."

Let both candles burn themselves out. Bury any remaining wax outside.

Good luck hon!

Kat from Occoquan, VA

Can you conjure a dead spirit?

Dear Kat,

Conjuring is an interesting choice of words and I’m not sure how you mean it. Can I wake the dead and control them?… no. Can I communicate with the dead?… yes. Conjuring is generally a term used in Voodoo and Hoodoo practices.

Crissi from Woodbridge, VA

I am having a hard time with a co-worker. His negative energy is becoming a problem. He is the intern I have the job but some of his skills are better than mine so I may be confusing my psychic abilities with low self esteem. I bought a protection bottle from the store this weekend. But I think that there is more that I have to do.

Dear Crissi,

Negative co-workers suck, but there are a number of things you can do to help protect yourself. Carrying bloodstone and black tourmaline in your pocket or leaving them in a bowl on your desk will help. Bloodstone absorbs negativity energy and black tourmaline blocks the emotions and energy of other people.
As for the Protection Witch Bottle you bought from 13 Magickal Moons, did you charge the bottle? It’s not difficult to do; simply hold the bottle in your hands and visualize yourself with a titanium bubble around you, protecting you from him. Feel the energy move from your hands into your witch bottle. Once you feel like the energy has stopped moving, put the bottle on your desk.

Christina from McGrath, MN

In a personal opinion do you think that the Goddess speaks to her disciples?

Dear Christina,

Of course I believe that the Goddess speaks to Her children... I'm just not sure She would call them Her disciples.

Savannah Amber Sky from Warrenton, VA

I am going through a bad time right now. I keep myself focused most of the time. Lately I feel like I am slipping away from myself. I meditate and read a lot. This helps relieve the stress from the situation, but it is temporary. I do spells and they work just tend to take a long time. I need to heal myself with strength. How do you begin to heal yourself from inside out without feeling like you're making the process worse?

Dear Savannah,

Inner self-healing can be a long and difficult process to go through. But to be honest with you, it's well worth it in the end. Remind yourself why you are trying to heal yourself everyday. Remind yourself why you are letting go of thoughts and emotions that hinder you from living a happy and magickal life.

Lost Novice from Woodbridge, VA

If you feel like the Goddess is "quiet" or not responsive to you because you can't see, hear or feel clear responses to questions, how do you know that you are 'welcome and accepted' as a witch? The key to magick is belief and I need some type of basis....what can I do? Is there a simple spell so I can know I am 'heard' and relevant? It is hard enough being a solitary without the added silence of the Goddess or knowing you are on the right path.

Dear Lost Novice,

Hearing the God/Goddess/Divine can be difficult, especially when our mundane world is drowning out our spiritual lives. There is no spell to help you hear the voice of the God/Goddess/Divine, but daily meditations and rituals are a great place to start. Daily rituals are a great way to reconnect with your spirituality without taking up a lot of time.

I would recommend that you create an everyday altar using items that you already have around your home. Be sure to include a representation for the God/Goddess/Divine, each element (earth, air, fire, water), and finally an item to represent yourself. This everyday altar does not need to be large or ornately decorated, just something that represents you and your chosen path. Try to spend 1 to 5 minutes with your altar every day (either first thing in the morning or last thing in the evening).

Simple and easy things that can be done in a short amount of time are:

* Light a candle while getting ready in the morning or before bed

* Purchase a prayer/affirmation book and choose one to use each day

* Leave a bowl of gemstones on the altar and choose one everyday to carry with you

Once you have reconnected with your spiritual path, you'll hear the voice of the God/Goddess/Divine again. She/They are talking to you... you just can't hear Them yet... but you will.

I hope this helps!
