Susan from Germantown, MD

I've had a couple recent bouts with people attacking my character and lifestyle/ business practices. When I say attack, I'm referring to being threatened harm, legal disputes and a friend ended our friendship for petty reasons. These attacks were not normal, nor were they justifiable. They were random, out of the blue, and were way blown out of proportion. I know there must be a reason in the Universe for the attacks (teaching me some lesson in humanity?) but I just can't take any more. I asked the angels to stop sending me such drastic and unneccesary lessons, but I have a sneaky suspicion there is another to come. What can I do to protect myself from these kinds of outrageous and sudden attacks from people? Of course, other than looking within at myself. I've already done that. Are there stones/crystals, herbs, or prayers I can work with? Thanks.

Dear Susan,

Start by focusing on the positive instead of the negative. Release
any negative energy inside you, as well as outside of you. Instead of telling your angels to stop letting bad things happening to you, thank them for the blessings in your life and ask them to keep you safe.

Use bloodstone to absorb negative energy directed your way and black tourmaline to create a protective barrier from everyone else. Keep away from gems that will magnify the energies around you, including clear quartz, citrine, and amethyst - pretty much any gemstone connected to fire.

BJ from Tampa, FL

I have been experiencing enormous evil intentions from a group of individuals that wish me nothing but harm in every way. I am a spiritual being and am stuck in this situation with no help from anyone. I need help and some clear guidance before one of them does something stupid, more so than they already have. I have been watched and found to be very intuitive and am right on the bullseye 10/10 times. These are people close to me and not wanting to lose their game. I don't accept losses like what they wish for me, nor do I submit to people who want to do me harm in ways I don't want happening with me and them. Please guide me to keep my personal power against them

Dear BJ,

Your question(s) don't make a whole lot of sense.

1. Why does this group have "evil intentions" towards you?
2. Who "watched" you and found you to be "very intuitive"?
3. How are these people "close to you"? Are they family, friends, roommates, classmates, office mates?
4. What do they want you to lose?
5. How do they want you to "submit" to them?

Jennifer from Hong Kong

I am only 11, and I would like to be a Wiccan. The problem is, I don't know how to be. I've asked others, and they said I needed to study Wicca and learn it by heart. But I don't know what the next step is. Could you please explain everything in detail? Thanks.

Dear Jennifer,

There is no way I could list in detail everything you need to practice Wicca. That would be a book, not a blog! :) Teen Witch: Wicca For A New Generation by Silver Ravenwolf would be able to give you the details you're asking about.

Please keep in mind that unless your parents are aware of what you're doing, please please please (I am begging you!!) do NOT meet anyone claiming to practice Wicca, witchcraft, or paganism as a way of learning. Any self-respecting group will say no to teaching a minor without meeting the parents. There are a lot of bad people out there claiming to practice Wicca who are just bad people.

Please feel free to email us again with questions or updates.

Justin from Toronto, Ontario

I want to use a taglock, specifically my hair, for positive magick. I would like to know if it is ok to burn my hair on the candle flames I will be using?

Dear Justin,

Yes, it's ok to burn your hair in the candle flame.

Ryan from Seattle, WA

Hello, I completed a hex removal process that had me bury the water and the black candle when the process was completed. It has worked great, however, I am worried as to what will happen if somebody ever digs up the candle and water. What effect on the hex/curse removal will come from somebody digging up the candle? Will the hex/curse come back to me? I'm worried I did not bury the candle in a spot that will ensure nobody ever digs it up. Should I be worried about this? I really appreciate your help... Thanks.

Dear Ryan,

I'm sure the instructions told you to bury the spell remains in a place where it would not be disturbed and I'm pretty sure you followed those instructions.

If someone were to "dig up" the remains, they probably wouldn't know what they were looking at and just throw it in the trash, leaving your hex removal spell intact.

If you really feel uneasy about your chosen location, go back to it, dig it up, and find a new much deeper and more secluded spot for it.

When reading magickal books on herbs, they talk about leaving a gift for the plants. I was wondering, what sort of gift would you leave?

Dear Michael,

Plant food makes a nice offering. You can easily find this at your local nursery, Home Depot, Lowes, or Wal-Mart. You can also leave food offerings, but you'll want to make sure that the food is animal friendly!

Lynea from Vermont

I have been told by mysterious strangers that I have a third eye. Also once when I was visiting a city, a woman shielded her eyes from mine and looked very alarmed. What do these type of experiences mean?

Dear Lynea,

Don't be alarmed! Everyone has a third eye. The Third Eye Chakra is located between the eyebrows. Chakras are spinning wheels of light and energy within the body and every person has seven major ones: Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye, and Crown. The Third Eye Chakra connects us with our intuition and our psychic abilities.

As for the woman who shielded her eyes from you… I have no idea. It could be any number of things, but it’s not something you should feel concerned with.

Joan from Woodbridge, VA

Hi there! My mom purchased High John the Conqueror root to help increase her prosperity and manifest money. Yet she doesn't know how to use the root to manifest her desire. Any suggestions?

Dear Joan,

First of all, make sure she's not handling the High John with her bare hands because it is toxic. She should wear gloves when using the High John, or wash her hands immediately after using it.

I would suggest she place the High John into a small plastic bag and hold it in between the palms of her hands. She should sit for a few minutes and focus on her breathing (deep breath in through the nose, long exhale through the mouth). Once she has calmed her mind down, she'll need to charge (energize) the High John with her intent. She can simply hold the bag of herb in her hands and visualize her desire (prosperity and money). She should feel the energy move from her hands into the High John.

Good luck!

Kevin from Branson, MO

I've been wondering if there are any spells I can cast on my guitar aside from the tried and true crossroads method. I'm not looking to improve my skill by magic but maybe a sigil or something I could put inside my acoustic guitar to make people more apt to listen to me when I play or anything along those lines. Maybe something to make it stay tuned. Anything would be great.

Dear Kevin,

To create a sigil is actually very easy. All you need is a pen and graph paper. To begin, create a box using 4x4 squares (16 total squares). Write the first letter of your first and last names or the first letter of each word in your band's name in block letter style on top of each other in the 4x4 square.

Another way to create a sigil is to use squares of graph paper to symbolize each letter of the alphabet. Visualize 5 rows of 5 squares (plus one extra square for Z). The first row represents the first 5 letters of the alphabet and so on. Place a dot in each square containing a letter in your name or your band's name. Create the sigil by connecting the dots of the letters to spell your name.

Place the graph paper inside of the guitar or paint your sigil somewhere on the guitar.

Sonya from Leicester, UK

I have read literature about the tradition and about the feminine and masculine divine. I have read Paulo Coelho's "Pilgrimage" and right now I'm reading "Brida." The spirituality behind the tradition fascinates me, and I want to find out more. I believe in God (as a Christian) but also in metaphysics, or magic. I am 15 and trying to find meaning or my path in this world.

Dear Sonya,

It's great at 15 that you are opening your mind to the metaphysical world. If you're looking to incorporate the feminine into your Christian spiritual practice, you could easily incorporate the Virgin Mary into your daily prayers. If you want to add a new level to your spirituality, you could also use a rosary along with one of the many prayers that can be said with it.

Twisted from Lorton, VA

What is sex magick and how does it work?

Dear Twisted,

Sex magick is the act of using sex to create a large amount of energy to be directed for magickal purposes. Anyone who is able to obtain an orgasm may perform sex magick.

I've read Moon Spells by Diane Ahlquist and Witches' Spell-A-Day Almanac and a fair few others. Christy from North Carolina

I'm a relatively new pagan, and recently I've felt very called to the goddesses Artemis and MorrĂghan. I feel more called to Artemis, however, and have questions regarding her worship... I feel very spiritually pulled to her, but I know virginity is very important. Is that only in the case of a woman sleeping with a man? I'm generally pretty confused on the do's and don't's there.

Dear Cristy,

I can understand your confusion when it comes to honoring Artemis and the words "virginity" or "virginal." Rest assured that in this case virginal means belonging to no man. It's okay to be in a committed relationship with a man, but it is not okay to allow a man to control you.

Kayleigh from Woodbridge, VA

I have a question in which I have been wanting advice for a very long time. My mother is Roman Catholic, and raised me as one. Once I turned 12 years old, I knew being Catholic wasn't the path I wanted to take religiously. I was introduced to Wicca a little bit after my 13th birthday, and just knew from there on it was the path for me, and I felt so at home with it, and at peace. I'm now 18 going on 19, and have been Wiccan ever since. And ever since then, I've been hiding it from my mother, because I know she will strongly disapprove. My mother thinks any form of religion besides Christianity, is sort of 'devil worship.' I've tried a few times to sit her down and start a conversation with her about Witchcraft, and how it's not even a bad thing, not even close. Every time I sat her down and tried to talk to her, she didn't really listen and sort of ignored me. I do believe now that she sort of has the idea that I'm not a Christian, but denies it. I'm very afraid my mom will disown me if I tell her my religious views, because of what happened to my older brother when he told her he was an atheist. Now he is dead to the family, and my mom doesn't really like us talking about him. So I've struggled for 5-6 years now with hiding my religious views from my mother because of what she will do. I'd love to get advice on what to do in this situation, because I'm really stuck right now and have NO idea of what to do. Thank you.

Dear Kayleigh,

I wish I had an easy answer for you. It's hard to be so passionate about your spirituality and have to hide it from your family. It sounds as if it would be in your best interest to leave well enough alone. There is no reason for your mom and the rest of your family to know you are Wiccan.

If you decide that you NEED to tell your mom and family, I have two books I would recommend you have on hand:

When Someone You Love is Wiccan by Carl McColman

Pagans & Christians: The Personal Spiritual Experience by Gus diZerega

Good luck and keep in touch!

Alex from Woodbridge, VA

How do you make a spiritual circle and what materials do you use?

Dear Alex,

There is no standard way to cast a circle. In general, each of the elements as well as both the masculine and feminine divine
are invited to your sacred space.

Start with an example from a book or website and modify it to suit your own needs. Use the materials and wording that makes you feel the most comfortable and powerful.

JoyAnn from Wabash, IN

Hi! I am struggling with incidents from my childhood. My babysitter would often take me to a very small cemetery located in a woods not far from her house. This was not on her property. Over and over we would walk there. I can remember walking down the lane, past a barn, and into the woods. There were 10-15 graves there; old tilted stones. Then my memory goes blank, and I never remember walking out of the woods or going home. We did this several times. My fear is that she did something to me there; like either something so bad I am blocking it, or some sort of ritual/ceremony that maybe she drugged me for. She was from West Virginia originally and would've had NO REASON to even know that cemetery (a small family plot) even existed. There would be days when I'd be in the back yard, playing, and I could see the woods beyond the field that was in between us. On several occasions 3-5 crows would fly from the woods to me; fly around overhead for a couple minutes then go back to the woods. This would happen several times in each occurence. It really makes me wonder what happened. It was almost like they were watching me, then reporting back to someone or something in the cemetery. Have you ever heard of such a thing? And is there anything I can do to help me remember or to release myself from these creepy memories? Sidenote: in the last few years the woods were plowed over and homes built on the one believes me that they were there. Can you say, poltergeist! lol... Thanks.

Dear JoyAnn,

To be honest with you JoyAnn, I'm not sure what to make of your situation. Your old babysitter was irresponsible with you, but I'm not positive she was a danger to you. I would recommend you find a hypnotist in your local area (get verbal references!) who can help you with your repressed memories. There is no telling what these memories are, so I do NOT recommend trying to remember this on your own or with friends.

It's not uncommon to find crows flying near or around cemeteries since crows have long been associated with death.

Please keep me updated on your progress.

Rhonda from Tennessee

Can a spell be sent by text to another if a circle has been drawn and candles and incense lit?

Dear Rhonda,

I'm not sure I understand your question. If you're asking if the wording for a spell can be sent to another via text messaging, then my answer is yes.

If you are asking if you can send a spell to another person via text message, then my answer is still yes. However, it's not really getting to the other person via text message (or cell towers), but is being sent via energy to the other person.

I have to ask... why would you want to send a spell to another person in a text message?

Brandy from Manassas, VA

I am hoping you can help me. My two and a half year old daughter told me she was scared... I said of what... She looked over my right shoulder and said the boy. She was intensely staring at the wall... She said I sing the cuppy cake song to make him go away (a song we sing together). Should I talk to her more about it or just leave it alone? Please help. I love my little girl... I dont want her being frightened or did she just make it up?

Dear Brandy,

I highly doubt your daughter made the story up, most likely she saw a spirit/ghost. Children are much more aware of spirits/ghosts than adults are since they haven't been "programmed" yet to disbelieve in spirits/ghosts.

Talk to her about it. Try to get a description of the little boy and what he was/is doing when he's around. Ask her why the cuppy cake song makes him go away.

Please update me as soon as you can.

Kelli from Santa Ana, CA

I am working on a banishing spell, and out of nowhere the thought of adding a drop of my blood to the paper before burning it came to my mind. I don't know why and wonder if this helps the spell or if it is bad.

Dear Kelli,

It isn't bad. Adding a piece of yourself adds more energy to your spell work.

However, this practice can be dangerous. Using a dirty pen, knife, or other implement to let your blood isn't safe. And although women have a monthly source of blood and men could use semen, this is a biohazard and you would never want anyone else to come in contact with it. Also, never use anything that purges your body of toxins, like vomit, urine, or feces.

Instead, if you want to add a piece of yourself to a spell, I recommend adding an eyelash, a few hairs, spit, or nail clippings. All of these suggestions are equally as powerful as using your own blood and much safer.

Marishka from Canada

Merry meet! I have completed my year and a day....yippee! My mentor and other fellow solitary sister witches are participating in my initiation. We are doing my initiation May 5-6, celebrating Beltane at the same time. We have been having a debate off and on about the cord colours a witch earns. I understand the first cord earned after one year and a day would be red. My mentor wears a red cord because of something we read and she agreed with my understanding. Could you please let us know the cord colours as one progresses within the craft? Thank you so much. Blessed be!

Dear Marishka,

Traditionally speaking, many Goddess-centered covens use a white cord in the first level to represent the Maiden Goddess, a red cord in the second level to represent the Mother Goddess, and a black cord in the third level to represent the Crone Goddess. If there is a High Priestess level, either a green cord (to represent the Earth Goddess) or a purple cord (to represent spirituality) is used.

Other traditions or covens usually use alternate colored cords to suit their specific ideas and beliefs.

Tradition of the Witches Circle doesn’t use cords at all, but instead we use pendants with the school's logo. Level 1 – Initiate uses yellow to represent Air. Level 2 – Practitioner uses green to represent Earth. Level 3 – Advanced Practitioner uses blue to represent Water. Level 4 – Priest/ess uses red to represent Fire. Level 5 – Advanced Priest/ess uses purple to represent Spirit.

I hope you have a wonderful, beautiful, and fulfilling initiation ritual!
