Carrie from Huntington, WV

I am looking for someone reliable and honest to do a love spell for me. (I want to win back straying husband of 25 years.) Do you have any recommendations?

Dear Carrie,

No, because it's not recommended that someone else perform any spells for you. Spells are fueled by the need and desire for an outcome. No matter how much money you're paying a practitioner, they don't have the need and desire for the love of your husband. You have to perform the spell yourself. You want your man? Fight for him!

Kimmie from South Lyon, MI

I've been a pagan for two decades, but I recently was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, which means I'm frequently on painkillers so I stopped practicing. Is it harmful to practice on half a vicodin? I don't want to accidentally harm myself or my family.

Dear Kimmie,

No, you're completely safe practicing while on medications.

Roksana from England

Hi, I have two things I was wondering. Do I have to cast a circle every time I do a spell, and from what age are you allowed to be a witch?

Dear Roksana,

It's better to cast a circle when performing a spell because it adds an additional safety layer to whatever spell you're performing. Once you become proficient at casting a circle, it takes less than 30 seconds to set one up and take one down.

You can be a witch at any age. Age doesn't matter when you're performing a spell, but maturity does. If you're questioning whether you should perform a spell, then the answer is simple... no. Only perform spells that you feel are right to the core of your being. Good luck!

Emily from Kansas

I want to become a witch. Can you tell me all about becoming a witch? I'm 12 years old and my friend Judith and my friend Reagen and I have made a group. Reagen is not really in the group because she calls us her helping witches and I need help. How do I become a REAL witch just like my friend Judith? Judith will not tell me how to become a witch. She has been a witch since birth so please answer me. I badly need this please.

Dear Emily,

Judith can't tell you how to become a witch because she doesn't know how to become a witch. I would recommend buying the books To Ride a Silver Broomstick and Teen Witch: Wicca for a New Generation by Silver Ravenwolf. This will give you and your "group," also known in witchcraft as a coven, a good solid foundation for becoming witches. Blessed be, little one, and good luck!

Daciana from Rowland, NC

Hello! I am a young witch who has a very close circle of friends and as such, we have garnered some enemies. To make a long story short, another practitioner made himself known and openly admits to following Osiris and Anubis, gods that I know are not the most "kind and pleasant" sort of deities. He gave one of my friends a jinxed bracelet. Since my friends disposed of it, (I'm not sure what they did), all sorts of bad things have been happening to us. We've all had horrible luck and I personally think that he may have hexed us through its destruction. I am searching for a way to break it and send it back to him because I do not appreciate my friends, who are the only family I have, being targeted like this. What can I do?

Dear Daciana,

Make your apologies to Osiris and Anubis. You just insulted two very powerful Gods. Did you really think there wouldn't be a payback for that? Your bad luck has nothing to do with the other witch and everything to do with the Gods you have disrespected. Do your research on Osiris and Anubis before you cast judgment on them. My suggestion is to perform a ritual as an apology and asking forgiveness for your lack of knowledge. Next time, before you look down your nose at any deity that has been around since the dawn of time, you might want to do some research.

Ike from Woodbridge, VA

Hello again. Sorry I haven't made it into the shop more. I have been thinking about getting more active with the local groups and was wondering if you had any recommendations as to where would be a good place to start? Thank you again for the past help with everything.

Dear Ike,

The Witches' Voice is a fantastic website with a lot of useful and interesting articles. The "Witches of the World" section can help you find solitaries, groups, and events in your area. And since you're local, you can also stop by 13 Magickal Moons on a Wednesday night between 6-9 pm for Tea Night to meet others of a like mind and learn more about the craft.

S from Manassas, VA

Hello! I have two questions I am hoping you can help me with. First, I am HAPPILY married for almost 10 years to my best friend. There is no doubt in my mind I love him with all my heart, BUT I have an old boyfriend that to this day I am drawn to. If I hear his name I can't breathe, my heart skips and if I happen to run into him, I go pale, shake, and feel sick and I am mesmerized by him. I think about him constantly and it worries me! After breaking up 13 years ago, you would think I wouldn't blink an eye! The relationship was an abusive one and very violent. What can I do to break away? Do you have a spell you can suggest?

Question 2: I have been following the Pagan path for only a few short years, so I am still new to everything. I have been in four different stores to buy things for my altar and whenever I go to the section with the pendulums (my preferred divining tool), my head feels fuzzy, dizzy, and vibrates and I get hot and sweaty and feel sick! Once I move away, things are normal again. This never happens at home with my collection of pendulums. What is happening? I look forward to hearing from you. :)

Dear S,

There are some spells and rituals you could use to help you ease the emotional effects you're having in regards to your ex-boyfriend. I will list off a couple of suggestions in a moment. First, however, you might want to think about speaking with a counselor about your relationship with your ex. What you could be experiencing is called PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). PTSD can occur when an individual experiences a very traumatic event. The abusive and violent relationship with your ex was a series of traumatic events. When we are in abusive relationships like that, we become entangled and bound not only emotionally but mentally, physically, and spiritually, as well because the abuse is so damaging. I really hope you take my suggestion of seeing a counselor to heart and find a way to make it happen.

On June 17, I posted an unbinding ritual for Jade. This would be a great ritual to do while you are in counseling, to help you have a more open and honest perspective of the situation. My intuition is saying that what you're experiencing isn't love but extreme fear.

As for your pendulum question, which is a much easier question to answer than the previous one, because pendulums are your preferred divination tool, you're very open and receptive to their energy. The more pendulums you're around, the lighter headed you would feel. Nothing to worry about! Just make sure you ground and center yourself before going into an area with lots of pendulums.

Jade from Ashburn, VA

How does one heal the heart after losing a multi-life connection? I have shared many lives with said individual and fear that I may have ended our connection through an act of stupidity. It has been two years now and I still feel the loss. I just feel so alone because no one understands. They tell me just live your life. You'll find another connection. Please advise.

Dear Jade,

If you tell yourself that you won't or can't find another connection, then you can't and won't. You have to be open to the idea that love is going to come to you and not assume this one person is the only person for you. You need to sever the tie between you and this person.

One way that you can do this is by having two pictures, one of you by yourself and one of the other person by himself. Cut a hole over both of your hearts in the photos and tie red yarn through the holes in your image and through his image, keeping eight inches of yarn between. Light a small black chime candle. Put your left hand over your picture, right hand over his, close your eyes, and think about releasing and letting go of the ties that have bound you two together. Once you feel the energy stop moving from your heart to your hands to the photos, burn the yarn with the flame from the black candle. This will be an emotionally difficult ritual for you to do because you are willingly severing ties to this person. Allow yourself to cry and mourn, then take your friends' advice and move on.

P.S. You're going to want to get rid of any mementos you have because that's just you holding on.

Mel from Sarasota, FL

This is kind of a spiritual question. I was once good friends with a young witch who lives in New Zealand. I was very kind to her and I always made up for it if I unintentionally hurt her. One day, she decided I "was just using her for her magick" even though I mostly talked about different topics with her and often kept my mouth shut when a friend or I needed help. Recently, after several months of not communicating with her I tried talking with her on Facebook, and two of her witch friends attacked me, ordering me to leave her alone and even threatened to kick my butt if I tried talking to her again. Is it right for witches to hate Christian mortals (which is what I am) and to be nice to other witches, or is all this against the code of being a witch?

Dear Mel,

First, I am a witch and I'm a mortal, so we're all mortals. Second, nowhere in your question does it state that the people in question were pissed at you for being Christian. It sounds like two friends got into a fight and two other friends got involved. It has nothing to do with Wicca or witches and everything to do with simply being human. There is no reason why Christians and witches can't be friends. There is no code dictating who witches may or may not be friends with.

My advice is to block her and her friends from Facebook and forget she existed. You don't need that kind of stress.

Jamie from Woodbridge, VA

I've been a practicing witch for a while and my mother is also a witch. I'm not shy about telling people my beliefs. However, I've been with my fiancé for almost five years and while I never hid it from him, and he is just fine with it, I haven't told his family. Particularly his mother. She is very active in her Baptist church and brings church/god into almost everything. She even had her children go to Christian high school. My fiancé does not follow her beliefs. With that said, very often she will send letters or email, urging us to come to church, insinuating that if we don't, we are going to have a very long eternity not living in heaven. My question is, how can I make her see that while I may not talk about my spiritual path with her, that I do have one, and that I don't need her to "save" me?

Dear Jamie,

She may not necessarily be trying to "save" you, but trying to incorporate you into her spirituality since you've never corrected her. However, there is no good reason to let your future mother-in-law know about your spiritual path because I can promise you this: it's not going to end well for a number of reasons. First, since you hid it from her for five years, she is going to feel as if you've been keeping a fairly large secret from her. Second, because of her beliefs, she is going to be fearful that you're going to burn in hell for eternity, taking her beloved son and future grandkids with you. If you decide to let her know about your spiritual path, i
t will be up to your fiancé to reign his mother in and set respectful boundaries. Good luck!

Hanna from Centreville, VA

My friend was dating someone for a while, then when they broke up he was very persistent about trying to stay with her. She has been trying hard to stay away from him because she feels like he has put some sort of spell on her. She has asked for my help but I don't know what to tell her. Is there anything I can do to help stop him?

Dear Hanna,

I hope this response finds your girlfriend ex-boyfriend free! The problem with ending a relationship is that our minds and hearts don't always agree on the course of action. It could be our head tells us to get away from someone, but our heart wants to be with them; or our brain knows we'd be with the right person, but our heart just isn't into it. I highly doubt what your friend is experiencing is a result of a spell and more a case of her heart or mind not wanting to let the relationship go.

If you really do believe that this is the result of some kind of spell work, then knowing about it is half the battle. The second half of the battle uses gemstones and herbs. Carry around black tourmaline because this will protect her against his energies and bloodstone to absorb any kind of negative energy being sent her way. Place black salt across the entrances into her house, including windows and garages. Be warned - black salt can stain, so it's better to put it on the outside rather than the inside of the home. Also, any jewelry he may have given her during the relationship should be cleansed.

Amelia from Dale City, VA

Merry Meet! I'm looking into converting to Wicca. My friend informed me vaguely, and I knew it was for me. I would love to learn more about the religion, magick, spells, etc. Please fill me in.

Dear Amelia,

I suggest starting with one of Dorothy Morrison’s books: The Craft: A Witch’s Book of Shadows. This is a great introduction book and reads easily and beautifully. Dorothy put in a ton of practical information which will help you both understand the basics of Wicca.

Other books I recommend include Teen Witch by Silver Ravenwolf, Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham, and Raymond Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft. Good luck!

Sophia from Woodbridge, VA

I don't know if I should be worried or not or what precautions I should take. My family has past experiences with ghosts and negative entities. I feel I am sensitive, out of my family, to a presence. Before, my sisters and mother have also experienced it and the activity was rampant. Now, nothing is happening, as we have just moved, but I feel something watching me, but before we have had experiences with negative entities. This one doesn't seem bad nor good. I'm not scared when I feel its presence. But I'm not sure if it's a past family member or something I should be aware of. I can usually feel its presence when I'm alone in my household; but my family doesn't seem to notice what I do, otherwise the presence isn't here. What should I do?

Dear Sophia,

If you aren't afraid of the presence in your home, I suggest finding a way of communicating with it. The spirit in your home is making itself known to you for a reason, so it could be a spirit guide (a spirit who guides you throughout your life), an ancestor, an old friend from long ago, or just someone who likes your energy (in a non-vampire way).

When you are home alone or alone in your room, begin to speak out loud to it. Ask your question and then sit in silence. An answer will pop into your mind in a voice that may or may not sound similar to yours. If this method doesn't work for you, then you can use a pendulum.

Burn incense (lavender is a great choice) to help you achieve a nice relaxed state. If you want to include gemstones, you can use amethyst, tiger's eye, blue topaz, moonstone, and/or clear quartz.

David from Carthage

Good day to you. I am a practicing solitary witch and I have a question about a symbol that my wife found. I haven't found reference to what it means and would like to know. It is three moons surrounded by a circle of protection, but the moons are not the like the holy goddess moons. Two moons are waxing and the other is sideways with a five point star near the left end. If anyone can tell me what it means, I would be very grateful.  Blessed be to all.

Dear David,

Can you send me a picture or link to the image?

Mitsuko and Tammy-Lynn

Mitsuko from Sydney, NSW
It's like, I want to become someone else. Is there a spell that allows me to become an anime character? I know that's quite "out there," and I'm sure the answer isn't "that's impossible." Please answer!

Tammy-Lynn from Toronto, Ontario
Hi magical witches. Can you do me a big favor? Can you put a spell on me? I really want to become a temporary mermaid, or I can be your pet. I just really want to have an animal tail. Can you do it?

Dear Mitsuko and Tammy-Lynn,

Sorry, but there is no spell to become an anime character or another type of being. It is impossible outside of a Hollywood movie set.

If you would like to see yourself in these roles, you could try contacting a graphic artist to have them create a drawing, or even a seamstress to create a costume.

Bella from Hawaii

Merry meet! I have been a practicing Wiccan for a little while now and I have never felt more in touch with myself or more peaceful. I know that this is the path I'm meant to be on. I am a solitary practitioner and was wondering if there was a kind of coronation into Wicca or if I should celebrate me giving myself to my new life and the Goddess I have chosen to honor? Is it okay not to invite someone who does not approve so that they do not bring any negative energy, or is there any way I can counteract it? I would love if you could help me. Blessed be!

Dear Bella,

An initiation ritual is a celebration and a commitment to the Goddess (and/or God) and your chosen path. I
personally would not invite anyone to my rituals unless they had an open mind and an open heart.
