Bryan from Medlin

Is there any witch that can help me? I am a 28-year-old man who as been taking care of my disabled mother for 9 years and hasn't had a single girlfriend in those 9 years. Can you help?

Dear Bryan,

There are a number of love spells available for you to use/cast.

If you've ever read any of my answers to spell casting questions, then you know that I never (EVER) recommend having someone else cast your spells for you.

Joanna from Unionville, NY

Is it possible to summon a demon into your body?

Dear Joanna,

Why in the hell would you want to summon a demon into your body? Have you just lost whatever is left of your ever-loving mind??

Katrina from Long Island, NY

I had a psychic reading where they told me my ex was not ready to commit, which is why the relationship didn't work. Now he is with someone else. Is there a spell or a way to have him attracted back to me, and change?

Dear Katrina,

No. Let him go. Cut your losses and find somebody new. Spring is in the air and love could be waiting right around the corner for you!

Margaret from Columbus, OH

I would like to know if free money spells really work. I have an urgent need for a large sum of money. I see ads for money spells and I would like to know if they really work. Thank you.

Dear Margaret,

Yes, money spells work. No, I do not recommend that you buy one from an ad. If you cast a prosperity spell, it needs to be cast by you and not by another person.

Janeen from Dusseldorf, DE

Hello. I'm 16, and I'm currently abroad in Germany. I went out with friends for "Silvester" (the German new year) and a drunk man burned me with fireworks. I didn't go to the doctor - I don't think anyone in my family before my generation ever did - and it's healing very quickly (my host parents are actually really shocked). My neighbor, who's a doctor, gave me cream for it that I've used, but I stopped because I ripped or the skin that was growing back. The burns on my face are already gone, but there is a larger burn on my neck. I know it will heal fine, but I wanted to ask if you knew any herbs or blessings that could help it heal faster and help with the scarring when it closes up. I think it's too late to go to the hospital because it's been a week. They won't really say anything. Thank you for any advice you can give me.

Dear Janeen,

Because it's been over a week, there's not a whole lot topically you can use that is really going to help. In the future, go to the doctor! Burns can lead to infections and infections can lead to something much more dangerous.

Scott from Spokane, WA

Hello, I have a question about healing. Also, is there a spell that can help pay my bills as I have read in Wicca? I did one tonight and I really hope it works. I have lots of questions. Thank you.

Dear Scott,

Well, when you're ready to write a question about healing, please do! ;)

Since you already cast a prosperity spell to help pay your bills, I don't think you need one from me. Good luck and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Alexandra from London, UK

How can I be a witch? I have read and learned and tried to do spells, but nothing works. I mean, they keep saying practicing, but how do I practice? Can you tell me? I would be so glad if you did help me. Thanks - I will await your answer.

Dear Alexandra,

First of all, I would say your single largest problem is your lack of confidence in your spell work. Secondly, make sure you're performing spell work that is realistic. If you're trying to perform a spell to win the lottery, it won't work and it'll make you feel like a failure. Instead of practicing with spells, try practicing with rituals. Cast a circle, call the elements, invoke the Lord and Lady. Keep doing this until you feel their presence in the circle with you. This is a great way to practice because it requires you to focus your mind and your energy and it connects you with the elements and the Divine, giving your spirituality and your spell work more oomph.

Mathresa from Wichita, KS

You may not believe me, but I have a troll problem. I have two children - they are indigos - and they have seen them. My mom is a sensitive and found out they are trolls. I need to find a way to get them to leave in a nice way. My kids are getting scared. Do you have any ways to help me? My kids are scared, especially at night. My vents have been lifted up a few times and I have heard noises like grunting. This is not a joke. I am not lying. I found this hard to believe too until my mom told me. My son has been keeping food in his room like crackers because he says they want him to get them food.

Dear Mathresa,

Trolls are part of the faerie realm. When it comes to dealing with the fae, one surefire way of getting rid of them is to place cast iron around and in the home.

John from Rather Not Say, USA

I am what many would call a "family trad" pagan of an "eclectic shamanic tradition". I am older and from a time when there was no internet and no real way to get information out you read books in the few spiritual and new age stores out there at the time or learned from others orally. You also didn't talk about hid your beliefs. Often I had to say "I am a non-denominational Christian" or "I believe in God but I am not religious or agree with many of the Churches." During the time I grew up, there were many incidents with Pastors doing criminal and immoral made sense. I didn't have any knowledge of the greater pagan community until I was an adult. Even now I am still behind the curve on that aspect.

Now I am older, a member of the Universal Unitarian Church. My wife is best described as Agnostic and doesn't really believe in the Art, Path and the Way...can't scientifically measure it...most times pagans are full of bullshit, but some might be real is her opinion most often. I am unsure how to educate my kids, while at the same time not put them in the spotlight as odd and different to the other kids who are not UU or pagan.

What advice do you have for a pagan parent?

Dear John,

I mean this as respectfully as I can, but if you think that teaching your children about paganism would make them feel "odd and different," then the problem begins with you. There is a way to teach children about paganism without having a pentagram tattooed on their forehead for the whole world to see. As you and your wife are teaching your children about your individual spiritual beliefs, you can also teach them that spirituality/religion is not something that is discussed openly with strangers. It's a mistake for you and your wife not to teach your children about your paths because then what foundation would they have in the future to make their own choice? You don't have to create a school and classes and homework, but if you make your spirituality an every day part of your life, it becomes a natural part of theirs. There are a couple of books that can be found on Amazon if you want to have more structure in teaching your children about paganism. Because you and your wife have such different views on spirituality/religion, make sure that both of you are respectful about the others' spiritual beliefs, otherwise the children may become confused and feel like they have to choose sides.

Raymond from Fredericksburg, VA

I am very new to the pagan world. I've been reading some books about paganism/ witchcraft and Wicca. But I'm still not exactly sure where to start. Or rather I should say I'd very much like to learn from someone who would be willing to teach me in person. Any advice?

Dear Raymond,

You can attend Tradition of the Witches Circle classes via Oovoo online from anywhere! You can find the current class schedule on the 13 Magickal Moons website.

To find pagans in your area, use a fantastic website called The Witches' Voice. This site has listings for local solitaries, groups, and events. All you have to do is search by your state and city. Good luck finding a group to work with!

Christina from Efland, NC

In a dream, I asked my patron Diana for my spiritual name. She does not speak to me in my dream, only shows me things. She picked up a handful of dirt, dipped it into a stream, held it in a fire, held it up in the breeze, and then handed it to me. It was a tiny clay figurine of myself. I told her I did not understand. She did not answer. The next time she appeared in my dreams, I asked her again if she could tell me my spirit name. She squatted down and drew three straight horizontal lines, three wavy horizontal lines, three straight vertical lines, and three wavy vertical lines. She drew the four figures in a square pattern. She pulled my hand over the drawings and pressed it down. When I drew my hand away, all four figures were on top of each other. Please, does anyone understand what she is trying to tell me? If the info helps, she first appeared to me during a guided meditation while I was trying to sort through some abuse issues and she gave me a doe as a protector. Thank you.

Dear Christina,

You are not listening to what Diana is trying to say to you. In both dreams, it reads as if she is blessing you. It is not the divine's job to give us our spiritual/magickal names, nor is one necessary in this day and age.

In both dreams, Diana has blessed you with the four elements. This is a gift she is giving to you. Be sure to thank Diana in a special ritual and to honor her on your altar every day. It sounds as if you have a very powerful and intimate connection with this goddess, so show her your appreciation instead of frustration.

Mariah from Gainesville, GA

I scryed during the day and collected water from the day (I don't know why) and I know that my scryings are ALWAYS right because they always work out. Well, last night I had a dream that a demon was trying to take me (I'm a young teen). In my dream I was with my friends in summer camp (it all seemed real to me), and one by one my friends were being picked away and they went missing. Eventually, it ended up just me and one of my friends in my dream. The demon tried to take my friend, so I said "stay away from her and take me instead." Everything in the dream got quiet, and suddenly I felt something pulling me by my feet from behind and I was being taken. I forced myself to wake up, and I still felt something pulling on me. It felt like I was running out of air and being pulled away from my bed, but it stopped. This only lasted about 5-10 seconds. I've been afraid all day wondering if it was real or just all a dream. So I decided to scry at 1p.m. I know you're not supposed to scry in the day with water collected from the day, but I was desperate. I put the bowl into the light and I didn't know what to ask, so I asked something simple - "am I important?" Then I touched the outside of the bowl and closed my eyes and it was like I couldn't open them. My eyes were closed shut and I couldn't get them to open. I tried hard and my eyelids were even trembling. I saw this idol body with no face and no eyes. Then I thought more about the face, wondering what it looks like, and my vision zoomed into its face and I saw a very evil-looking face. It had no eyes and it was red with black markings all over it and it had a black cloak over its head with a very large devilish smile. I finally opened my eyes, and I'm now too scared to scry again. Please, do you know if this is real or fake? Let me know if you know what demon it is or if it's my imagination. If it is a demon, please help me try to get rid of him! My sister is a Satanist and she claims that she can talk to demons, so I just hope she didn't do anything bizarre, but last time I checked she said she didn't talk to anyone! Another thing I should tell you is that we moved out of this house a year ago into an apartment, but we moved back because my mom wanted this house. Me and my friend used a ouiji board without protection. I did rituals for protection (I think) all around my room. I was glad I moved back to this house because the new house we just moved in and out of was definitely haunted. My friend's entire back has a scratch mark on it from the ghost that lives there. I saw the ghost and how she died in a vision and I felt her petting my back at night while I tried to sleep. Anyways, please help me figure out what this is!!!

Dear Mariah,

Well it definitely sounds like you had a traumatic experience. But I don't believe in demons, so I'm going to say it was your imagination, a nightmare that crossed over into a daymare. Sometimes nightmares can be so real that the emotions stay with us all day long. However, if you really do believe it's a demon, it sounds like your sister will have more knowledge than me. Witchcraft has nothing to do with Satanism or demons. The two religions don't even fall under the same umbrella.

In my years of practice, I've never heard it is unsafe to scry during the day with any kind of water.

Mae from Virginia

I've been interested in the basic ideals and beliefs of Wicca for a while now, but never put any effort into pushing myself to commit. Just a few months ago, though, I purchased Dorothy Morrison's The Craft and really started to commit myself and find out what speaks to me. I think I still have a lot of learning to do. Do you have any more reading suggestions that would help me learn more? I'm shy and I know I'm not ready to start meeting people with the same interest because I don't even know what questions I would have to ask! Also, I leave for the military mid-March, and when I signed my papers back in December, I just felt a strong pull to learn more about Wicca. I hope to hear from you soon, and thank you for taking the time to reply.

Dear Mae,

The Craft is a great book! You
should also pick up The Craft Companion: A Witch's Journal because Dorothy has some really helpful and easy exercises for you to do and practice makes perfect!

A couple of my other favorite books are Complete Book of Witchcraft by Raymond Buckland and Scott Cunningham's Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner.

Dean from Birmingham, AL

What is the best size for an altar? Is it best to have a short altar so you can kneel and meditate in front of it and do your rituals, or is it best to have a high one where you stand up?

Dear Dean,

To be honest with you, either altar setup would work because it all depends on which position is more comfortable for you. Personally, I like to kneel or sit in front of my altar, so at home I have a lower altar. At 13 Magickal Moons, however, I have a much taller altar which I stand in front of.

Wayne from Erlanger, KY

Hello. I married a witch. I'm not a religious person, but in buying some books about Wicca to learn more about my wife's beliefs (because hounding her constantly with questions was just getting ridiculous), I found that I was really interested and found some serious commonalities between my personal beliefs and the traditions of Wicca. My question is about the faith involved with Wicca. My wife had a Wiccan mentor when she wanted to learn about the craft. Her mentor was teaching her, helping her with supplies, and providing a level of support and instruction. She and her mentor had a rather serious falling out. Part of that was over me. Since that falling out, my wife has lost faith in her faith. She feels that if her mentor could have been so vindictive and mean, then the teachings and traditions she was learning from her really meant nothing at all. One of the things I love about my wife is her passion about her interests, and it breaks my heart to see her effectively lose her interest in what was, when we met, her religion. How can a non-Wiccan help a Wiccan who has lost her faith? I want her to be the woman she wants to be and to continue to learn and grow in her spiritual life. It saddens me that she seems to have lost that because her mentor was so insulting and petty. Also, since my wife has stopped practicing, I feel like my interest in the tradition is somehow insulting to her. I don't want to make things worse by entertaining my interest in the religion if it is just going to be a sore spot for her.

Thank you,
Concerned husband

Dear Wayne,

First of all, let me say that your support of your wife's religion speaks very highly of you as an individual. It's a shame that your wife and her mentor got into a fight, and that, from the sound of it, the mentor betrayed her trust. I'm really sorry to hear that because of that fight, your wife has begun to question her spiritual beliefs. Allow your wife to be angry for a little while. But once some time has passed, remind her that her mentor was not and is not the be all and end all of what Wicca/witchcraft is. She shouldn't condemn an entire religion because of the acts of one person. She shouldn't condemn an entire religion because of the acts of even a number of people, because you'll find shitty people in every religion. If Wicca is something you're interested in, then perhaps you and your wife should have a ritual together. You can start with something small like a simple couples meditation. I hope this reply finds you and your wife happily practicing together.

Ask A Witch Update

Blessed be, readers!

We love that so many of you write in with good questions, but we must remind you that, due to how many questions we receive, it could take a number of weeks before your response is posted.

We here on the Ask A Witch team all have lives and jobs outside of answering questions. This is a free service that we provide for love of our spiritual path and our ever-growing community. So sending in a question and a day or two later sending in a shitty comment about a lack of immediate response is rude and disrespectful. We do the best that we can in our spare time, and when you send in a "where is my response" question, it only guarantees that we will push your question off another few days out of spite!

For the vast majority of you, we appreciate your support and your enthusiasm, and we look forward to serving the community for years to come.

Ella from Hyattsville, MD

Hello, first I would like to say thank you for opening this site. It's very informative and your shop is AMAZING!

Anywho...a member of my circle got her hands on a "change your eye color spell." The ladies want to try it out, but we are skeptical since we kind of grew out of the whole teenage witch "games" and "experiments"...oh, how the nostalgia haunts us. I'm surprised that we didn't come across this spell earlier in life; then we would have lit the candles without a second thought, but nowadays we are more aware of what we are doing and we are a lot more serious. Now I'm just going on... my question is, what is your take on this spell? Do you have any experience with it? Thank you for your time, and keep doing what you. Blessed be!

Dear Ella,

THANK YOU!  I always love to get feedback from people... especially when it's positive feedback!

As for the "change your eye color spell," I've never heard of it and couldn't tell you if it really works. I highly doubt it will, but let me know how it works out for you and your friends!

Ashley from Fairfax, VA

A friend of mine is going through a divorce and asked me to do a peace spell for the situation. They are not Wiccan, but know I am – hence asking me to do it. I think you know what I am asking. Is it inappropriate to do it for them if only one person in this unit requested it? A peace spell seems pretty basic and nonthreatening. Would it be a good idea? I don’t want to overstep a boundary. Thank you!

Dear Ashley,

Personally, I would not do it. If both partners agreed to it, then it would be okay, but if it's just the one partner, nothing good can come from it.
