Meet the Ask A Witch Team

Ask A Witch is a collaborative effort of three people, Samantha Harvey, Jennifer Wells-Marani, and John Marani.

She is also the founder and Head High Priestess of the Tradition of the Witches Circle, which holds classes at 13 Magickal Moons as well as online.

Jennifer Wells-Marani is the Virgo behind Ask A Witch. She formats, types, and schedules the blog. A paranormal romance author, she currently has two books, Magick Charm and Practically Dreaming.

Rev. John Marani writes Ask A Witch's articles on tarot and astrology. He is the Head High Priest of the Traditional of the Witches Circle. He reads tarot at 13 Magickal Moons, does tarot parties and phone readings, and offers a variety of astrology services. He also writes a blog about tarot, astrology, and other metaphysical topics.

How We Got Started

Samantha"I didn't find Witchcraft, Witchcraft found me. I grew up in a home where religion was a must. It was forced down my throat at all times. As I got older and was able to understand what was being said, I began to question some of the concepts. I asked (what I considered) insightful questions and received lame answers in return. The question that has most stuck in my mind was... Why was my twin brother valued more than I was? I've never thought that men were better than women... I've also never felt that women were better than men. I've always felt that we needed each other.

"A friend of mine bought me a Witchcraft book for Christmas a long time ago. I half-ass read it, and put it on my bookshelf... never really thinking about it again. Maybe he knew me better than I knew myself... maybe he bought it as a joke. But one day, I was driving home from work and felt the need to read it. I ran into the house and found the book, without even looking for it. I just knew where it was (this is after four moves.. one of which many of my books disappeared). As I read the book, I felt something inside of me click and change. I felt like I found something that I was missing... a part of me that was always there waiting for me to be ready for the changes that came. I felt like I belonged and I had finally found my way home."

Jennifer: "I first learned about Wicca in junior high. My school had a surprising assortment of metaphysical books, and I was curious about all of it – spirits, divination, and the supernatural. I stumbled into information about witchcraft in that library, and the more I read, the more it made sense to me.

"It wasn’t until I was in college that I decided to officially declare myself a Wiccan. I practiced as a solitary for more than ten years until I walked into a new metaphysical shop in Northern Virginia. The school and community of 13 Magickal Moons was so welcoming, it quickly became like a second home to me!"

John: "I knew nothing about the Craft before I met my wife. I started studying the tarot and astrology in 1989, a time when I was struggling spiritually, and was still in that state when I started dating her. What she was doing was so empowering and interesting that I started studying on my own. We began to come to 13 Magickal Moons in 2005, and I put on a pentacle for the store's Litha Ritual in 2005. Soon thereafter, I started taking classes with the Tradition of the Witches Circle, and have been studying there for over six years. I hold the title of Head High Priest and High Priest of Tarot for the school."
